Joey Gonnello Change is always good for one of city’s top stylists
Joey Gonnello is so good at what he does, his work has had some far-reaching effects. The stylist couldn’t help but laugh as he recounted one particular woman’s reaction to a new hairstyle.
"‘Oh my God, my husband’s going to have sex with me tonight. I’m a new woman!’" Gonnello said. "And then I got a phone call the next day, and she said, ‘I had the best sex of my life last night.’"
When he’s not playing love doctor, Gonnello can be found at Tease Boutique Salon (9540 W. Flamingo Road, just off the 215) and on TV as trend editor for Fox 5’sMORE program. The New Jersey native has styling in his blood (his mom is a cosmetology instructor, his sister owns a salon) and he’s not afraid to tell his clients exactly what he’s thinking—especially those clients still desiring a perm 25 years after the fact.
"If you’re going to sit in my chair, be ready for change," he warned. "If you’re going to stay with the same exact hairstyle year after year, I’m not the stylist for you."
Gonnello, who accepts appointments through his Web site, joeygonnello.com, says his clientele ranges from children to stylish grandmothers who are not quite ready for that roller set, but he soon may become familiar to an even broader range of people outside the Las Vegas area. He’s developing a reality show, in production now, to help people realize lifelong dreams with the help of celebrity guests. Stay tuned. –Jack Houston
